I managed a
trip to Blåfjell this summer too. Because of shitty weather I delayed the
departure for two weeks, so that I left home 10.07. As before I stayed
overnight in my tent at Friisvegen. The next day I drove all the way to
Kalseidet in Sweden. Before I had stayed overnight at my old schoolmate’s Tor
Jentoft in Verdal, but he was travelling, so it was not possible this time.
12.07.
mountain farmer Christian came and picked me up by boat at the Swedish side of
Gjevsjøen. Stayed overnight at his farm and continued the next day to the cabin
at Kasttjønna eight kms from the farm.
Chomsky has
become strong as an ox, so he carried up to 18 kgs on his back. He was not
bothered the least by this, so he set off after birds despite all this weight.
He has become the perfect tour mate. He carried beer and other heavy stuff to
the cabin and fish and cloudberries back to the farm, so that it could be
frozen. He showed the way when there was no track and was always in a good
mood. Last year I had difficulties making him enter the boat. This year he
jumped in voluntarily, even without being asked.
Because the
old man’s health has been naturally impaired with age, I went twice to the
cabin to get food and equipment in place, so this year the heaviest load was
only 23 kgs.
After a few
days the weather turned good and unusually warm. At the warmest I was hit by a
vicious stomach infection, with vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Because I was so weak
that I had difficulties standing on my feet, and because recovery was so slow,
I considered calling for a rescue helicopter. Fortunately I got better little
by little, so I could avoid this. But I had great fun lying inside the cabin in
more than 30 degrees C. I managed to get myself into the water, so that I could
cool down. It was difficult to determine the cause of the attack, but one
possibility could have been the water in the lake, which was full of swimming
tiny little creatures. When I discovered this, I started getting my drinking
water form a stream near the cabin. I took mw two weeks to get my stomach in
order again, but then I was able to go to the farm for supplies without
problems.
As before I
read novels and listened to audiobooks. Also, this time I solved a difficult
sudoku almost every day.
Fishing was
Ok, but the biggest trout was only seven hgs. However, there were plenty of
cloudberries, so that I could pick quite a lot.
I managed
only one long trip, to Plukkuttjønnfjellet. A magnificent day, with a fantastic
view. It was so great that I forgot to take photos. However, I did this last
time, so that you can view the photos
there.
The weather
remained good most of the time, but even on rough days it turned good in the
evening, so that I could see many beautiful sunsets across the lake.
I did not
see a single human being near Kasttjønna or during my trips. I found this
strange, considering the beautiful mountain terrain. Nor could I see much
wildlife; only an eagle fishing near the cabin. However, during my driving on
the Swedish side, I saw several elk and roe deer and a reindeer.
On my trip
back I stayed overnight at my friend Tor Jentoft’s in Verdal. The next day I
drove to Sandviksberget in the Osen municipality on the Fosen peninsula, where
I stayed with my sister Turid and her husband Øystein. During my stay there I
picked a lot of red gooseberry, which is one of the tastiest berries I know. As
earlier I visited the town Namsos, where I met my friends Emil and Eigil.
On 11.08 I
went to Trondheim where as before I stayed with my friend Ole Brønmo. When I
arrived there was a birthday party going on. It turned out that Ole was 78 that
day. There was a frightening amount of good food and drink.
I was quite
fed up and tired after a long drive when I finally arrived at home.
So now I am
back with my old routine: I walk Chomsky for a short trip in the morning and
evening and a longer one around a lake in the middle of the day. I perceive the
intervals between the trips as shorter and shorter as I age.
Despite the
fact that I was ill, dizzy and unstable, the trip was on the whole successful.
If I am still able to god cross-country skiing in March year, I will go back to
Kasttjønna. Much easier when I can be picked up by snow scooter and taken
straight to the cabin.
Christian
has promised that he will install a fridge, new door and windows.
